Please ensure that a photograph is included, as this helps to identify who the book belongs to when it reaches the completion course. Also ensure that your personal details are correct, especially the date of registration (this is available on the RC2 form which should have been received by your company captain). Your Queen's Badge Advisers details should also be included in this page.

Pages 8-9 - Action Plan:

Service in the Company;

You should be able to work with the Anchor Boys, Junior Section, Company Section and with Seniors where suitable. Your programme of practical leadership should be discussed with you officer-in-charge before it takes place. Examples of practical leadership include; taking games or crafts with the Anchor Boys. In the Junior Section you could take classes, figure marching, games, tuck shop, battalion competitions and events and outings. Company Section activities include squad commander, classes, tuck shop, drill, games, battalion competitions, weekend camps and summer camps. The above are only suggested ideas, and there may be others which your company take part in.

Brigade Leadership Training Course;

You should attend the first available Brigade Leadership Training Course after registration. This will allow you to put into practice any skills which you have gained during your time in the BB. You should enter the date and the venue of the course in this page.

Service Outside the Company and Church;

This type of service could include working with the WRVS, charity shops, old folks homes, helping with various sports clubs, conservation groups, after school clubs or assisting teachers with younger classes, hospital radio or music groups. These are only some suggestions. If you are planning to do something which you are unsure about its suitability please check with your company captain/supervisor or Battalion Adviser before starting it.

Remember that the 30 hours is a minimum, and that for you and the person you are providing the service for it may be more beneficial to carry out a more longer term service.

Action Plan;

This should be signed by your Battalion Adviser and company captain/supervisor to show that they have approved the course of action you are going to be taking during your Queen's Badge work.

Page 11-15 - Get Ahead! Practical Leadership:

Leadership in the Company;

You should write a brief report of the work carried out in the various sections you helped with.

Record Sheet for Leadership in the Company;

This should be completed any time any work is carried out. This record sheet should be signed by your company captain at the bottom, and initialled by the section supervisor every time you carry out work.

Leadership Training Course;

A brief report of the leadership training course you attended should be given. Please ensure that the course reference number is attached at the top right hand corner. A copy of the course programme should also be included.

Think It Out!

You should ensure that this is filled out with your own ideas as to what leadership is. A one line answer is not sufficient and as much detail as possible should be provided in your answer.

Pages 16-19 - Get Involved! Service Outside the Company and Church:

Practical Service;

A report on your practical service should be provided. Make sure that your work is carried out over a minimum of 6 months, with at least 30 hours of work being done. In exception circumstances, and period of less than 6 months can be accepted, but this has to be authorised by the Battalion Adviser in advance.

Record Sheet for Service Outside the Company and Church;

This should be completed any time any work is carried out. This record sheet should be signed by your assessor at the bottom, and initialled by the supervisor every time you carry out work.

Think it Out!

This is what you have learned about practical service. A brief report should be supplied. Photo's from your practical service can also be included if you wish.

Pages 20-25 - Get Active! (Expedition/Exploration, Skills & Physical Recreation):

Expedition/Exploration;

An expedition on foot must be carried out over 3 days and 2 nights, covering at least 48KM over the duration of the activity. You must be self-sufficient during this time, as no outside help is allowed. An exploration follows the same criteria except the distance travelled may be reduced and the time saved may be spend on investigating or researching material for the project which gives the expedition its purpose. A minimum of 10 hours must be spent travelling over the 3 days.

The record book report should include a copy of the expedition log or exploration project. For full details refer to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Handbook, or the D of E website, found in the Links page.

Skills;

There is an endless list of skills and hobbies which boys are involved in these days. But before using your skill as part of your Queen's Badge work, check with your Adviser or company captain/supervisor to ensure that it is suitable. In order to be successful in undertaking a skill for you Queen's Badge, you should have your performance monitored over the duration of your Queen's Badge, and you should show and improvement between the start and finish. The supervisor for your skills section should normally be out with your companies own staff.

Physical Recreation;

There are many choices of physical recreation which you can carry out. Once again, the assessor should be someone out with the company's staff. For full details see the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Handbook, or the D of E website, on the links page.
