OFFICERS PAGES
Below are some notes which Company Captains/Supervisors should bear in mind if they have Candidates aiming to gain their Queen's Badge. Record Books will not be accepted if they are not up to a suitable standard or are incomplete.
If a Record Book won't be complete in time for the Completion Course, the Area Organiser should be informed.
Although it is the Candidates responsibility to ensure that the Record Book is being completed correctly, according to regulations and to a suitable standard, you should meet with the Candidate on a regular basis to ensure that he has no problems with his Queens Badge work and that he is completing his Record Book. The current problem with the standard of completed Record Book is partly because Candidates are completing the Record Book at the last minute and meeting with the Candidate on a regular basis will hopefully will improve this.
Presentation of Record Book (writing standard):
It has become apparent over the past couple of Completion Courses that the standard of presentation in the Record Books is gradually getting worse. We understand that some Candidates may have learning difficulties or other problems which may impair their ability to complete the Record Book, but there is no excuse for handing in a Record Book where there appears to have been no care given to the overall presentation of the Book. Company Captains/Supervisors should ensure that the Record Book is to a suitable standard before the Candidate is due to attend a Completion Course.
Candidates with Disabilities/Allergies:
Company Captains/Supervisors should ensure that the District Organiser is made aware of any Candidates who are coming to a Completion Course who have any disabilities, learning difficulties or any allergies, no matter how small, so that arrangements can be made with the staff at Carronvale House to cater for them.
Candidates:
Candidates must attend a West Lowland Area Completion Course, except in exceptional circumstances. The Area Organiser should be informed and should also see the Candidates Record Book prior to them attending another Area's Completion Course.
Candidates can be registered during the session which they become 15, i.e. you don't have to wait until they are 15 to register them. The date of registration is the date they are registered at Scottish Headquarters, and not when they are presented with their Presidents Badge. Their date of registration is shown on form RC2, which you will receive from Scottish Headquarters when they are registered.
Advisers:
Advisers should meet with the Candidate at least twice when they are in the course of their Queens Badge work. This is usually at the Candidates Conference, and once through the session. If you feel that the Candidate could use some extra support from the Adviser, please get in touch with the Adviser for your Battalion and make the required arrangements.
Use of CD-ROM/Website:
Candidates should be encouraged to use the CD-ROM disc where available. A version of the Queen's Badge Record Book where the pages do not move when text is entered is available on this website on the "Forms and Guides" page. Candidates should also be made aware of the resources on this website if they aren't already, as it will make the task of completing their Record Book a lot easier.
Registration
The Candidate can be registered for his Queens Badge during the session when he becomes 15. DO NOT wait until his presentation date before registered the Candidate for his Queens Badge.
The Candidate should be registered as soon as all the necessary Badge work has been completed which will allow him to commence work on his Queens Badge although he may not have been presented with his Presidents Badge.
