Although it is the Company Captain's responsibility to ensure that you are registered for your Queens' Badge, it is important that you check to ensure that this has happened. Please note that you do not have to wait until you are 15, but you must have gained Grade 3 in all 5 parts of the Awards Structure, and have attended a Grade 3 Leadership Course.
Presentation of Presidents Badge:
Once you have been registered for your Queen's Badge, your Company Captain will be supplied with the following; Presidents Badge, Presidents Badge Certificate and a Queen's Badge Record Book. The Captain should make arrangements with you to have these items presented to you as soon as possible, i.e. Church Service or end of session Display. Please note that you can start work on your Queen's Badge Record Book before the day of the presentation by working on the Action Plan (Pages 8 and 9).
Your Queen's Badge Adviser should contact you within 4 weeks of registration to arrange a Candidate's Conference. This will allow you to discuss and agree your Action Plan. If your Adviser hasn't contacted you within this period, you should contact him directly. His/her contact details are available on the Contacts page. You cannot carry out any more work on your Queen's Badge Book past the Action Plan until it has been signed by the Battalion Adviser.
At the Candidates Conference, you should complete two copies of the Candidates Action Alan, which should be signed by yourself and your Captain/ Supervisor. Your Adviser should keep one copy and the other kept in your Record Book.
Brigade Leadership Training Course:
You should attend the first available Brigade Leadership Training Course. This will allow you to put into practice any skills which you have gained within your own Company. Your Company Captain will be able to tell you the available dates. Other courses are also available, e.g. First Aid. Please contact your Battalion Advisor to discuss availability.
Completion of Queen's Badge Record Book:
Your Queen's Badge Adviser should visit you approximately half way through your time of doing your Queens Badge work to ensure that your Record Book is being completed correctly and to a suitable standard. They will also be able to help you with any problems which you may have at this stage.
The purpose of the final visit is to ensure that all the necessary parts of your Record Book are complete, and that all signatures have been obtained and that the presentation of the Book is to the standard expected of a potential Queen's Man. At this visit the Adviser may ask you to add to or change your Record Book so that it meets the correct standards.
Approximately 4 weeks before the course, your completed Record Book with all added paperwork should be submitted to the Area Organiser. Your Battalion Adviser will be able to tell you the date when this will happen. If your Record Book cannot be completed for the submission date, please ensure that the District Organiser is informed beforehand.
When you submit your Record Book you should ensure that you have also completed and submitted your Consent Form and Candidates Biography (Forms and Guides). If your Record Book is not complete, you should give reasons for this.
Once your Record Book has been submitted to the Area Organiser you should receive the paperwork for the Completion Course. If not you should contact the Area Organiser. (See Contact Us)
Further details of the Completion Course are available here.
Presentation of Queen's Badge:
Once you have successfully attended a Completion Course and your Record Book has been approved the blue Queens Badge Application Form should be completed and signed by the District Organiser. Your Company Captain should then send the completed form to the Scottish Headquarters at Carronvale House. Once your Company Captain has received you Queen's Badge and Certificate you should discuss arrangements for the formal presentation by a suitable person. Remember the Queen's Badge is the highest award in the Boys Brigade, and so should be presented as such.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme:
Whilst working for your Queens Badge you can also work for your Duke Of Edinburgh Silver Award. To allow this to happen you should ensure that your Captain completes the necessary forms.
You must also complete all 3 Sections of the Get Active! Activities (Pages 20-23)
