ADVISERS PAGES

The first contact you will have with the Candidate is when you receive a copy of the RC2 form from Scottish Headquarters.

This informs you that the Candidate has been registered for his Queens Badge and importantly gives you a Date of Registration.

You should contact the Candidate within 4 weeks to arrange a Candidates Conference. If a Candidates Conference is not possible at that time, you should discuss the Candidates Action Plan. This will allow the Candidate to commence his Queens Badge work before the Candidates Conference.

Candidates Conference

At the Candidates Conference, you should meet with the Candidate and the Company Captain/ Supervisor to discuss and agree the Action Plan (Page 8-9). Once all aspects of the Action Plan have been agreed, it can be signed by yourself and the Captain/ Company Supervisor. The Candidates Action Plan should also be completed and a copy retained by yourself.

It is important that you remind the Candidate that:

a)     The Queens Badge is the premier award in the Boys’ Brigade and should be treated in such a way.

b)     If the Candidate is unsure at any point or requires extra support, he should contact you. This will ensure that he does not have to re-do any part of the Record Book again.

You should meet with the Candidate AT LEAST once during the time he is working for his Queens Badge to ensure that his Record Book is being completed correctly and that all other aspects of his Queens Badge work are being carried out according to the regulations.

If you are satisfied that the Candidate has completed all parts of the Record Book satisfactorily and has complied with the regulations you can sign the Battalion Advisers Endorsement (Page 34). If for any reason, the Record Book will not be complete in time for the Completion Course the Area Organiser should be informed in writing with the reasons for this.

Millennium Volunteers

The Millennium Volunteers Scheme is another aspect of the Queens Badge Award work which the Candidate can apply for. Further information is available in the Forms and Guides section.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Remember that Candidates can work towards the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award but they must be registered for this in advance. To gain this they must complete all three parts of Get Active! Activities (Pages 20-23). Your Battalion Duke of Edinburgh Advisor should be able to give you more information.

Further information regarding the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme can be obtained from the website. (See links)
